Alireza Kiani

Alireza Kiani is the editor-in-chief of “Fereydoun” at the National Union for Democracy in Iran (NUFDI).

Fereydoun is a Persian-language social, political, and intellectual journal sponsored by NUFDI. The project publishes written content through its website and social media channels, and also produces video interviews with experts and commentators on Iranian affairs.

Born in Mazandaran province in northern Iran, Kiani studied political science in Iran and collaborated part-time with several national newspapers and journals in Tehran, focusing on modern Iranian history and political thought. He began his political and organizational activism against the Islamic Republic in 2008, which led to two arrests in 2009 and 2010.

Following a prison sentence and the forced termination of his studies under pressure from the Islamic Republic’s security services, Kiani left the country in 2011 and continued his political activities in exile. That same year, he joined the Liberal Students and Graduates Organization of Iran, and in the summer of 2018, became a member of the Farashgard Network. When Farashgard transitioned from a network-based group to a political party in response to the developments of the 2022 uprising, Kiani was among the founding members of the Iran-e Novin (New Iran) Party in December 2022.

While abroad, Kiani continued his intellectual and analytical work alongside his political activism, contributing to various anti-regime media outlets and participating in political and analytical interviews on television and radio.

In 2021, he assumed leadership of the Fereydoun Project. As of 2024, he has stepped away from all other political and media activities to focus full-time on Fereydoun.
